Make sure your family has a Home Evacuation Plan.
Junior Mitigation Wizards, it’s very important for your family to have a home evacuation plan. If a disaster happens near your home, know where you and your family would go, what you would do, and the steps you should take to stay safe
Every family member should know the plan and how to follow it. Also, you should have a contact person outside the area where you live who you can call. Then, that person can let people know that your family is safe and what help is needed.
So you see, being prepared is all in the planning. Download and fill out your own Home Evacuation Plan:
Take time to practice Home Drills.
What are home drills, exactly? Well, like fire drills and tornado drills, they’re what to do at home in an emergency. So first:
- Set aside time to practice what to do in an emergency. Start by going over your Home Evacuation Plan.
- Talk about the plan with everyone in your home. Everyone should know what to do and where to go.
- Then, practice, practice, practice. Everybody should know the plan, so you’re all ready to take action in case of emergency.
- It’s helpful to plan with your neighbors, family and friends for disasters. Sharing your emergency plans will help everyone “know the drill.”
Following these steps will ensure that the people you care about are truly disaster prepared. Download this helpful Home Drills info:
